We recently lost a long term Raystede resident, Purdie. Most of you will either have seen or know of Purdie, for a small pony she had a huge personality and no day at Raystede will be the same without her.
Purdie made it to almost 29 years old and spent 20 years at Raystede. Considering the struggles she faced with her clubbed foot and sickle hocks, this really was a miracle in itself. The wonderful support from her sponsors and other supporters meant that we were able give her the very best care, going above and beyond to meet her many needs and enabling her to live her best life.
In November last year, Purdie's lameness worsened and after X-rays and vet visits it became apparent that she was getting old and tired, and her clubbed foot was deteriorating. After a rest, lots of physio and changes to her medication, Purdie did turn a corner for quite some time, making steady improvements and seemed to be enjoying life. Unfortunately, Purdie’s quality of life began to deteriorate, and she wasn’t responding well to pain medication, and even with all the vet visits and physiotherapy treatments, she wasn't enjoying her cuddles or interactions like she used to. Purdie enjoyed a final weekend in the sunshine with her fellow pony and best friend, Cherry.
We hope you enjoy these photo and video memories of Purdie. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of giving her such an amazing life at Raystede over the last 20 years, she was an extremely loved pony!
I loved seeing Purdie everything I visited. She was the cutest pony ever. Rest in peace Purdie.
We sponsored Purdie in October 2023, and my daughter got to meet her in March this year. We are all very upset to hear the sad news, but glad to know that she is no longer in pain and at peace. Natasha thinks Purdie was a legend, and wishes she had seen her more and been braver when giving her carrots! She would like to send her love to her carers and especially Cherry who must be missing her best friend. ❤️💔❤️🩹
Shall miss seeing Purdie in the paddock, without Raystede's love and care over the years, she might not have been given the chance of a long happy life. RIP Purdie.
